Our Initiatives
Nadharia’s initiatives are practical, community-driven responses to real needs. They sit within our broader programs, translating values into action through livelihood creation, creative expression, food security, and collective care. Each initiative is designed to generate opportunity, strengthen dignity, and support sustainability for both individuals and the organization.

Tubonge Tukibonda
Tubonge Tukibonda is a community dialogue and creative engagement platform that brings people together to talk, reflect, and connect through facilitated conversations and art. Rooted in lived experience, Tubonge creates accessible spaces where sexual and gender minorities can explore themes such as relationships, wellbeing, identity, pleasure, care, and justice.
Over time, Tubonge Tukibonda has taken different forms, including themed editions and collaborative sessions that combine conversation with creative expression. These gatherings foster trust, reduce isolation, and support mental and emotional wellbeing while strengthening community bonds. Tubonge is not a one-off event, but an evolving platform for learning, healing, and collective reflection.

Mabeshte Jikoni (Friends in the Kitchen)
Mabeshte Jikoni is a community-based catering and food enterprise initiative designed to create income opportunities for individuals connected to Nadharia’s shelter and programs. The initiative provides practical pathways into food preparation, catering, and service delivery, particularly for people navigating economic exclusion.
Participants are supported to work collectively as catering opportunities are pitched and secured, gaining experience in food preparation, teamwork, budgeting, and client engagement. Mabeshte Jikoni offers both immediate income opportunities and longer-term skill development, while fostering dignity, confidence, and collective responsibility. The initiative reflects Nadharia’s commitment to economic models that are supportive, flexible, and rooted in care.

Farming, Permaculture & Hydroponics
Nadharia’s farming initiative strengthens food security and sustainability through permaculture-based gardening and hydroponic growing systems. Designed to work in limited spaces and changing conditions, the initiative emphasizes environmentally conscious practices such as soil regeneration, water efficiency, and continuous food production.
Produce from the gardens has directly supported household needs by contributing groceries for daily meals, reducing food costs and increasing stability. Beyond food provision, participants gain practical skills in sustainable farming, resource management, and collective responsibility. The initiative supports resilience at both household and community levels, ensuring food production functions as care, livelihood, and long-term support.

Poultry Farming
The poultry farming initiative in Kisumu is run by members of Charm City Models Kisumu as part of a broader approach to sustainability and economic empowerment. The project supports income generation through poultry keeping while strengthening collective leadership and responsibility among participants.
This initiative enables members to earn income, contribute to household needs, and support ongoing community engagement work. By linking creative advocacy with livelihood generation, the Kisumu poultry project reflects Nadharia’s integrated approach—where culture, care, and economic agency reinforce one another.
