SAFETY AND SECURITY

Nadharia’s Shelter Program provides short-term, emergency support for sexual and gender minorities facing immediate risk, including violence, displacement, and homelessness. The shelter was established in response to the lack of safe, affirming spaces available to queer people during moments of crisis.
The program operates as a stabilisation and safety intervention, prioritising dignity, confidentiality, and informed consent. Access is managed through a secure intake process that includes risk assessment and verification, ensuring support is responsive while safeguarding residents and staff.
During hosting, clients receive holistic support, including psychosocial care, safety planning, and referrals to trusted services. Where possible, individuals are also connected to Nadharia’s broader programs, such as economic empowerment and community support, to strengthen stability beyond the immediate crisis.
For safety reasons, details about shelter location and operations are shared selectively. Grounded in intersectional feminist practice and community accountability, the shelter remains a critical lifeline for sexual and gender minorities navigating unsafe environments.
